Pitt sophomore receiver Maurice Williams has been declared academically ineligible for the upcoming season.
"We're disappointed for Maurice but academic performance is a major priority for our program," said Pitt coach Dave Wannstedt in a news release. "We believe Maurice can achieve a lot at Pitt, both academically and athletically, and our expectation is for him to use this as motivation for improvement."
Williams, who is a graduate of Erie Strong Vincent, played in 10 games last season and had 100 yards receiving and a touchdown on five catches (20 yards per catch). He was expected to be the team's big-play receiver.
