"Mi Mi Mi Meeee, La, La, La, Lahhhh! Gore warms up for his opera.

Al Gore will finally get center stage -- no, not the U.S. presidency, but in an opera. The Associated Press is reports that La Scala has commissioned composer Giorgio Battistelli for an opera based on Gore's "An Inconvenient Truth" for its 2011 season.

"Battistelli, 55, says he believes operatic treatment of Al Gore's "An Inconvenient Truth" will help people see the world's environmental predicament from a fresh point of view.

"Opera makes you reflect," he told the AP. Artists in general "make you see things differently, make you see things in a new light. When we see a painting by Francis Bacon or a film of Sydney Pollack, we get a very precise idea of the problems of our century."

The AP said Battistelli plans to include the figure of the former U.S. vice president in the story.

"It will be about the tragedy of our present situation," Battistelli said. "It is a great challenge, of course, to write an opera on such an unusual subject. It is certainly not the story of Romeo and Juliet."

It will be intriguing to see how this turns out -- he is right, it's not going to be an easy task to make credible characters and a traditional plot out of the subject! But something more experimental could work well.

The real question is will La Scala do any green promotions around it. I'd suggest not printing voluminous programs typical of most opera halls.
