There was a buzz around PPG Place yesterday as some employees making beelines to their cars and bus stops were detoured by a honey of a problem.
A swarm of bees took up temporary residence on a "one way" sign along Third Avenue outside 1 PPG Place, prompting the fire department and city Public Works employees to tape off the sidewalk, curb and an adjoining stairway.
Most pedestrians, intent on heading home, passed the area oblivious to the swarm, which covered about 25 percent of the front of the sign and half of the back. Others took note of the unusual formation from the safe distance of the other side of the street.
PPG security officers kept pedestrians moving through the area, waiting for the cooler temperatures of the evening, when the bees were expected to move on.
