At 5 feet tall and a slender 100-or-so pounds, Jackie Vasquez wasn't known for hitting home runs. Until she put Arizona State in the Women's College World Series final with one swing.
Vasquez hit a three-run home run after slugger Kaitlin Cochran was hit with a pitch, leading the Sun Devils to a 3-1 win against Alabama and their first chance to play for the national championship.
The Sun Devils (64-5) will face fifth-seeded Texas A&M (56-8) in the best-of-three championship beginning today. The Aggies beat top-seeded Florida, 1-0, on Kelsey Spittler's RBI triple down the right-field line in the ninth inning.
Wild Things
Washington defeated the visiting Florence Freedom for the third day in a row to finish off its first sweep of the season. The 4-3 win extends the Wild Things' win streak to four and puts them at 5-6.
Pro football
Jason Taylor wants to play one more season, even if it's with the Miami Dolphins.
The six-time Pro Bowl defensive end denied reports that he demanded to be traded from the Dolphins, but did acknowledge for the first time that if Miami wants to move him, he would be receptive.
"I want to win in '08," Taylor said.
Former Indianapolis Colts and Dallas Cowboys kicker Mike Vanderjagt took part in the first Toronto Argonauts practice of the season.

Olympics
Russia's Ilia Frolov won the men's title at the modern pentathlon world championships in Budapest, Hungary, while Yahor Lapo of Belarus qualified for the Beijing Olympics by finishing third.
Frolov, last year's world silver medalist, took the lead after the third event -- horse jumping -- and held on to finish with 5,796 points. David Svoboda of the Czech Republic was second in the competition that combines shooting, fencing, swimming, equestrian and running.
Frolov and Svoboda had already qualified for the Olympics.
Soccer
Conor Casey and Tom McManus scored and the Colorado Rapids ended FC Dallas' six-game winning streak against them with a 2-1 win.
FC Dallas held an 11-game unbeaten streak against the Rapids. Colorado's previous win against FC Dallas was Sept. 4, 2004.
The win also vaulted the Rapids (5-5-0) into first place in the Western Conference of the MLS.
