18 city public schools accepting transfers
Thursday, May 29, 2008

Eighteen Pittsburgh public schools are accepting transfer students under an "open enrollment" process through June 16.

Open enrollment gives students an opportunity to go to schools outside their feeder patterns. Transportation is the family's responsibility, unless space is available on an existing bus route.

The schools accepting transfer students are Pittsburgh Beechwood PreK-5, Beechview; Pittsburgh Concord K-5, Carrick; Pittsburgh Morrow PreK-5, Brighton Heights; Pittsburgh Spring Hill K-5; Pittsburgh West Liberty K-5, Brookline; Pittsburgh Whittier K-5, Mount Washington; Pittsburgh Woolslair K-5, Bloomfield; Pittsburgh Brookline K-8; the Primary Campus of Pittsburgh Faison PreK-8, Homewood; Pittsburgh Greenfield K-8; the Primary Campus of Pittsburgh Lincoln K-8, Lincoln-Lemington; Pittsburgh Miller PreK-8, Hill District; Pittsburgh Westwood K-8; Pittsburgh Carrick High School; Pittsburgh Langley High School, Sheraden; Pittsburgh Oliver High School, the North Side; Pittsburgh Peabody High School, East Liberty; and Pittsburgh Westinghouse High School, Homewood.

Applications are available at the schools or on the district's Web site at www.pps.k12.pa.us.

A transfer student will remain at the school until completing the highest grade there. Future school assignments would be determined by feeder pattern.

Early-childhood students are not included in the open-enrollment process.

A breakdown of available slots at each building is available on the district Web site.
