DETROIT -- A fire alarm went off at the Penguins' hotel here around 1:30 a.m. today.
It proved to be a false alarm, but that didn't prevent the players from being awakened when it went off.
It was not immediately clear whether the incident was a prank, although the Penguins deal with such things relatively often on the road, especially in Philadelphia.
"That's one that we've gone through before," center Sidney Crosby said. "I'm sure it's just a coincidence."
Perhaps, but the story didn't end when the alarm was turned off.
Team officials said that about a half-hour later, there was a hotel-wide announcement that it had been a false alarm, effectively waking anyone who had managed to get back to sleep.
