Thursday, May 22, 2008

Baldwin High School graduate Jessica Dignon became the first softball player in University of Pittsburgh history to be voted to the Big East Conference All-Star Team three consecutive years.

Dignon was a first team selection at shortstop, after earning third-team honors the past two seasons while playing third base.

"It is a well-deserved honor and is a testament to Jessica's dedication and hard work all year," Pitt coach Michelle Phalen said.

Dignon set a pair of school record with 17 doubles and 42 runs scored. She had a .377 average (66 hits in 175 at bats), six home runs, and 44 RBI. Dignon is also Pitt's career leader in RBIs (113) and doubles (45).

South Park grad honored

South Park graduate Stacey Rhoades was voted to the first team of the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Western Division Softball All-Star Team.

Rhoades, a senior shortstop at Slippery Rock University, compiled a team-best .376 batting average with five doubles, eight home runs and 32 RBI.
