Slippery Rock names new men's basketball coach
Thursday, May 15, 2008

Kevin Reynolds was named today as head men's basketball coach at Slippery Rock University.

Prior to joining the Morehead State staff, Reynolds served two and a half seasons as an assistant coach and the last half of the 2006-07 season as interim head coach at Division I University of Denver, a member of the Sun Belt Conference. He also served one season as director of basketball operations at Penn State University (Big Ten Conference) and six seasons as an assistant coach at Drake University (Missouri Valley Conference).

Assuming The Rock reins will be like coming home for Reynolds, who is a native of Bethlehem, Pa.

Early in his coaching career, he was associate head coach, assistant coach and graduate assistant coach at Indiana University of Pennsylvania and assistant coach at Edinboro University. Indiana and Edinboro, like The Rock, are members of the PSAC's Western Division.

Reynolds was also a four-year basketball player at Bloomsburg University, a member of the PSAC's Eastern Division, where he earned a bachelor's degree in marketing (1991). He also earned an MBA (1993) and a master's degree in industrial and labor relations (1994) at IUP.

Reynolds succeeds Jamal Palmer, who served two seasons as The Rock's head coach.

"We think we have found the right person to lead Rock Basketball back to the elite of the PSAC [Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference]," Slippery Rock Athletic Director Paul Lueken said. "Kevin's experience as a successful player and coach in the PSAC, along with his recruiting contacts in Division I and II, will be invaluable."
