His old Kentucky home: Former Kentucky basketball coach Tubby Smith, who coached the Wildcats to a national championship in his first season (1998), was back in blue at Rupp Arena recently. Not to collect any money the school failed to pay him after he was fired little more than a year ago. Not even close. Our good friends at The Associated Press report that Smith was there to get an honorary degree in humanities. And, clearly, by giving Smith a humanities degree, the school was showing more humanity than it had in firing ... oh, never mind.
Dare we repeat it: Dale Davis, 78 and legally blind, rolled a 300-game recently in Alta, Iowa. The Los Angeles Times reported his reaction: "It's a great sport. It's something the young, the old and the handicapped can do. I guess I count as the old and handicapped." Excuse our political incorrectness, but that's calling 'em as he sees 'em.
