A South Side restaurant co-owned by Pittsburgh Steeler Hines Ward will be auctioned next week in U.S. Bankruptcy Court.
The Locker Room Bar & Grille, which is under Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection, will go on the block May 23.
Mr. Ward will put up a stalking horse bid of $900,000, said Guy Fustine, an Erie attorney who represents the Locker Room.
A bidder seeking to best Mr. Ward's offer would have to put up at least $920,000, Mr. Fustine said, otherwise Mr. Ward will become the sole owner of a business free and clear of debts.
Mr. Ward is not necessarily interested in remaining involved in the business. Rather, Mr. Fustine said, Mr. Ward's bid "represents an opportunity for other people to come in and bid to buy this real estate in a prime location and a business that has proven it can be profitable for a decent price."
The tavern is located at 1825 E. Carson St. It has remained open during bankruptcy reorganization.
Interested bidders must register with Mr. Fustine's firm by Monday at 5 p.m. Mr. Fustine can be reached at 814-459-2800.
The property to be sold includes the building, furniture, equipment, fixtures, food inventory, beverages, the liquor license and name.
