The school board will meet twice this month.
The board will hold a special meeting and work session May 21 in the board room of the Central Administration Offices, 200 Hillvue Lane, McCandless. Before the meeting, a Distinguished Achievement Awards ceremony will be held in the auditorium at Carson Middle School at 7 p.m. Students and staff members who have been honored on a state and national level will be recognized. The school board will move to the board room at the conclusion of the ceremony.
The board's regular meeting will be held at 7:30 p.m. May 28 in the board room.
Mars Area Middle School and Mars Area Centennial School will be presented with the 2008 Susan G. Komen for the Cure McDonald's School Promise Award today at The Race for the Cure.
The award is presented to schools that have promoted healthy lifestyles and educated students about breast cancer awareness.
For their efforts, the schools will receive $1,500 to be used to enhance their physical education curriculum.
The schools also will be recognized as bronze level sponsors of this year's Race for the Cure and the schools' names will appear on the race T-shirt and on a banner at the race.
This year, the Mars Area schools raised more than $6,000 for the cause through various fund-raisers.
