The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation is starting to repaint lines on interstate highways in the Pittsburgh region.
The work will take place between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. Monday through Thursday, weather permitting, through early June on Interstate 79, the Parkway West (I-279 and Route 22/30), the Parkway East (I-376) and Crosstown Boulevard (I-579).
PennDOT suggested that motorists stay at least 250 feet behind line painting equipment to avoid paint damage and not to pass unless directed by a paint crew member or flagger.
Line painting crews typically pull to the side of the highway about every 21/2 miles or when safety permits backed-up traffic to pass.
After the interstates and other limited-access highways with high traffic volumes are painted, PennDOT moves to other roads on the National Highway System, like Route 30, followed by state-owned secondary roads.
