In case you haven't heard, the Penguins and Flyers are rivals.

If you ask us, this rivalry is on par with some of the all-time greats:

EMPTY NETTER ASSISTS

Playoff Stuff

Penguins-Flyers

-Because Versus isn't a real channel, Game 1 won't be available in high definition. Who ever said the NHL was a garage league? Oh yeah...

-Today's "R.J. Umberger is from Pittsburgh" story is brought to you by us.

-Don't expect these two teams to rack up as many penalties as they did during the regular season.

-Can the Penguins suprass the Steelers as Pittsburgh's most popular team? Bob Smizik thinks so.

-Kimmo Timonen will not play due to a blood clot in his ankle.

-How much does Timonen's injury help the Penguins? Vote on it here.

-Dave Molinari says the Penguins in six.

-Playoff games can conflict with a normal life.

-The front lawn outside Gate 3 at Mellon Arena is near capacity.

-Looks like some Flyers fans sponsored Jarkko Ruutu's Hockey-Reference.com page.

-A game-by-game review of the Penguins postseason so far.

-Ray Shero cares not if you spent $175 on that Marian Hossa jersey.

-Sami Kapanen is the only Flyer remaining from the 2004 squad that went to the Eastern Conference final in 2004.

-John Stevens is no quitter.

-Sidney Crosby remembers Derian Hatcher taking those teeth three seasons ago.

-It's Malkin time.

-Timonen's injury really hurts the Flyers.

-Flyers goaltending great Bernie Parent likes what he sees in Martin Biron.

-Flyers goon Riley Cote apparently supports the Hells Angels in Winnipeg.

-The last time Michel Therrien and John Stevens met in a playoff series, things got heated.

-That Penguins-Rangers series did pretty well in terms of television ratings.

-Sidney Crosby and Michel Therrien had a conference call. Kukla's Korner has the transcript.

-Outside of the "Striking Distance" reference, the Bucks County Courier Times listed all the ways Pittsburgh is better than Philadelphia.

-Bruce Dowbiggin says savor the Penguins while you can.

-ESPN's John Buccigross says the Penguins in seven.

-Don Cherry cares not for your retinas (check out that suit) or Sergei Gonchar's fighting abilities:

Western Conference

Red Wings-Stars

-Tomas Holmstrom had a goal and an assist for the Red Wings in a 4-1 defeat of the Stars. Detroit leads the series, 1-0.

-Why exactly is Detroit Hockeytown again? There were plenty of empty seats last night. This isn't some ho-hum game against the Blue Jackets in November. This is the Western Conference final.

-A week off the ice didn't hurt the Red Wings.

-The Stars didn't accomplish what they needed to do in order to beat the Red Wings.

-Like just about anyone from a civilized country, a trip to Detroit turned out to be a nightmare for the Stars.

-The Red Wings scratched forward Darren McCarty and replaced him with Kirk Maltby.

-Stars goaltender Marty Turco should just never set foot in Joe Louis Arena ever again.

-Dallas better get this thing turned around quick or they're going to get swept.

-The Stars took too many penalties.

-Playing catch-up hockey isn't a good way to play the Red Wings.

-Red Wings defenseman Nicklas Kronwall likes to hit.

-Check out this hit Kronwall stuck on Antti Miettinen last night (1:20 mark):

-The Red Wings like their pizza:

-Detroit's power play came through.

-A look at how Stars fans watched Game 1 outside of American Airlines Center.

-Were the Stars still worn out from their four-overtime win in Game 6 against the Sharks in the second round?

-The father of Stars defenseman Mark Fistric was once drafted by the Red Wings.

-What's the secret to playing a four-overtime game? Eating pizza.

AHL

-The Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins have a chance to put the Philadelphia Phantoms away tonight.

-Penguins forward Jonathan Filewich is still dealing with a finger injury.

Non-Playoff Stuff

IIHF World Championships

-Canada got a goal from Blue Jackets forward Rick Nash with under four minutes left in regulation and edged Norway 2-1. Norway's goaltender Pal Grotnes made 50 saves in the loss. He also has an awesome name.

-Devils forward Zach Parise scored two goals and an assist and led the United States to a 6-4 defeat of Germany.

-Devils forward Patrik Elias, Predators forward Martin Erat and Maple Leafs defenseman Tomas Kaberle each had a goal and an assist for the Czech Republic which beat Switzerland, 5-0.

-Former Islanders forward Mattias Weinhandl had a goal and three assists for Sweden in an 8-1 rout of Denmark.

Northeast Division

-According to The Hockey News, the Maple Leafs were denied permission by the Sharks to approach general manager Doug Wilson about the same position in Toronto.

Southeast Division

-Goaltender Olaf Kolzig will not be returning to Washington.

Central Division

-Today's sign the Blackhawks get it: The team brought back long time television broadcaster Pat Foley. (Kudos to EN Reader Jarrett Rathke for the heads up.)

-Perhaps the Blackhawks don't get it. Despite not reaching the playoffs since 2002, the team is raising ticket prices.

Pacific Division

-The Stars agreed to a deal with coveted free agent forward Fabian Brunnstrom.

Norris Division

-The Wall Street Journal says hockey is back.

-Would-be Penguins owner Jim Balsillie will just not go away.
