Presque Isle Bay of Lake Erie: Releases of smallmouth bass up to 4 pounds and largemouth bass were reported. Bluegills, perch and crappies were being taken at the head of the bay, in Misery Bay and in the marina bay. Northern pike were hitting in Misery Bay and in the lagoons.
Lake Wilhelm (Mercer County): Paul Wisniewski of Freedom caught an 8-pound 4-ounce, 28 1/2-inch walleye with 15-inch girth on a Bomber Long-A, and Steve Sofi of Butler caught two walleyes, 19 and 20 inches, on crawler harnesses. All three fish were caught Saturday below Launch No. 1. Tom Lancaster of Hermitage released a 3-pound 8-ounce, 211 /2-inch largemouth bass Monday on a Hot-n-Tot. Anglers also were catching crappies and bluegills.
Shenango Reservoir/Shenango River (Mercer County): Dam releases kept water levels high Wednesday. The recent crappie bonanza had turned a little spotty amid high angling pressure. A 42-inch muskie was released last week in the river, where flow is now high.
Neshannock Creek (Mercer, Lawrence counties): March Browns and tan and olive caddisflies were hatching, but rainfall made stream conditions marginal.
French Creek (Crawford County): James Lindow, Jr., 8, of Bridgeville landed his limit of walleyes up to 5 pounds, 26 inches on minnows on a tributary of French Creek last weekend.
Pymatuning Reservoir (Crawford County): Walleyes 16 to 28 inches were reported, with many catches coming in the weed beds. Crappies, including many slabs, also were hitting. A 50-inch muskie was landed recently off the bank by the dam.
Lake Arthur (Butler County): Edward Finn of Lower Burrell caught a 1-pound 10-ounce, 14 5/8-inch crappie Tuesday, and Zach Stanford, 10, of Butler landed a 1-pound 8-ounce, 13-inch crappie Saturday. Dandy perch were coming in 10 to 12 feet around the Rt. 422 and Rt. 528 bridges. Anglers also were boating northern pike up 36 inches.
Keystone Lake (Armstrong County): Shawn Iman of Indiana caught a 32-inch carp with 21-inch girth May 2 on a homemade doughball.
Allegheny River: Walleyes, saugers, smallmouth bass, white bass, catfish and a few crappies and spotted bass were hitting in recent days at Highland Park, Lock No. 3 (Cheswick) and Lock No. 4 (Brackenridge).
Monongahela River: Smallmouth bass, saugers and walleyes were hitting Wednesday. One angler reported numbers of legal walleyes and saugers at Point Marion.
Ohio River: Nice-size walleyes, saugers, hybrid stripers and a few smallmouth bass were hitting Wednesday. One angler landed a large carp at the mouth of Little Sewickley Creek and another angler released a 36-inch catfish.
Youghiogheny Reservoir (Fayette County): Ron Dorula of Uniontown caught a 5 1/2-pound walleye near shore Tuesday. George Harvey, Sr. and George Harvey Jr., both of Uniontown, won Sunday's Yough Walleye Association tournament with four fish totaling 9 1/3 pounds, including the 4-pound lunker. No limits were taken. A few smallmouth bass were released. Crappies had turned on. The Association's 14th annual invitational walleye tournament is tomorrow. For more, visit www.youghwalleye.com.
Youghiogheny River: Light angling pressure and good conditions were reported. Trout were hitting in the dam tailrace. The tributaries were fishing well with size 15 and 18 Blue Winged Olives, Hendricksons and midges were coming off.
Jones Mill Run (Somerset County): Several trout were caught last weekend. Craig Nemchik of White Oak landed a 4-pound, 21-inch brown.
Canonsburg Lake (Washington County): Nice catches of trout were reported after last weekend's stocking.
Raystown Lake (Huntingdon County): Striped bass were hitting on surface lures against the shoreline at night. Lake trout were coming on flutter spoons in 16 to 25 feet. Sizes were mixed in both species. The lake was high and muddy yesterday, with water near the dam the clearest.
Penn's Creek, Little Juniata, Spring Creek, Fishing Creek (Central Pennsylvania): Sulfurs were just beginning on most streams in this region, while March Browns were hatching on Fishing and Penn's creeks. Flow was high but fishable in most places yesterday.
Deep Creek Lake (Maryland): Walleyes and jumbo perch were reported.
