Dozens of local students using a variety of media were named winners Tuesday in the 16th annual National City African-American History Contest.
Using poetry, an essay, art, music or video, students between the ages of 6 and 18 had to complete the assignment of selecting an African-American history maker from Pittsburgh.
First-place winners in each of three age groups received $500, second place $100 and third $50.
First-place winners in essays were Chanice Curgess, ages 6-9; Nathaniel Barbour, ages 10-13; and Delvin Turner, ages 14-18.
First-place winners in poetry were Lenique Huggins, ages 6-9; Madison Wrubleski and Christian Waldron, ages 10-13; and Sahar Turner, ages 14-18.
First-place winners in video were Sara Matta, ages 6-9; Abigail Butterfield, ages 10-13; and Amanda Olbetter, ages 14-18.
First-place winners in art were Abigail Fabrizi, ages 6-9; Kerri Silbaugh, ages 10-13; and Danielle Munoz, ages 14-18.
