College Bowling: Robert Morris bowler in Clash of Champions
Thursday, May 08, 2008

Tim Pfeifer, a senior this fall at Robert Morris, will participate in a bowling extravaganza this weekend that will be the first bowling broadcast on network television since 1999, the first bowling event to use NFL cheerleaders (from the Kansas City Chiefs) and the first tournament set up to have a man meet a woman in the final.

Pfeifer earned one of the 16 spots -- eight men and eight women -- in "Bowling's Clash of Champions" by winning the 2007 United States Bowling Congress (USBC) Intercollegiate Singles Championship.

The "Bowling Clash of Champions" will be held today in Kansas City, Mo., and will be televised from 5-6 p.m. Saturday on CBS.

The man vs. woman final will be televised from 4-5 p.m. Sunday on CBS. Former Steeler Lynn Swann will make his TV bowling debut as a lane-side reporter.

"Being able to compete against some of the best bowlers in the world is exciting," said Pfeifer, a graduate of Seneca Valley High School. "Winning would be an awesome experience."

The 16-player field comprised of winners of national USBC tournaments will include Pete Weber, U.S. Open champion and USBC Hall of Famer, Liz Johnson, U.S. Women's Open champion, and Wendy Macpherson, USBC Women's Championship Classic All-Events.
