Pirates' Wilson to miss two more weeks
Wednesday, May 07, 2008

Pirates shortstop Jack Wilson, out since the season's opening week because of a strained left calf, is expected to miss two more weeks, maybe slightly more.

The team yesterday said its tentative plan for Wilson was to have him begin a minor-league rehabilitation stint this weekend, with Class AAA Indianapolis or Class AA Altoona. But that will not happen now because of slow progress and, once it does, it will take more than the originally prescribed two or three games for Wilson to be ready. It might take as much as a week of minor-league action.

Wilson is hitting off a tee in Bradenton, Fla., but he is engaged in no other baseball-type activity.

The Pirates have described the injury as a strain, but it also could be called a tear, albeit a slight one.

More details in tomorrow's Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.
