SPECIAL NOTES

Highway deaths -- PennDOT has said highway crashes claimed 1,491 lives in 2007, a decrease of 34 from the previous year. While overall accidents increased from 128,342 to 130,564, it was still the third lowest number in more than 50 years.

Hempfield plans -- PennDOT will display plans for proposed replacement of the Route 130 bridge over Slate Creek a 5 p.m. Tuesday at the West Point Volunteer Fire Department.

Motorcycle safety -- This month is Motorcycle Safety Month in Pennsylvania, where the number of registered motorcycles increased by nearly 22,000 last year. Free motorcycle safety courses are offered March through October at 69 sites across the state. Visit www.pamsp.com.

INTERSTATES

I-70, Washington County -- Resurfacing 8 p.m.-8 a.m. weekdays only on two miles between the I-79 North and South Junctions.

I-79, Allegheny County -- Traffic being maintained in both directions on the northbound lanes over the 6.6-mile reconstruction zone between the Ohio River and I-279 Junction, Franklin Park. An "express lane" has been established for southbound traffic.

I-376, Parkway East -- No work this weekend. However, overnight lane closings will resume this week in the three-mile work zone between Churchill and Edgewood-Swissvale interchange.

I-579, Pittsburgh -- Work postponed this weekend because of weather and today's Penguins playoff game at Mellon Arena.

STATE HIGHWAYS

Business Route 22, Monroeville/Wilkins -- A $7.7 million repair and repaving project under way. Intermittent lane closures 7 a.m.-3 p.m. as needed and 8 p.m.-6 a.m. most weeknights through fall.

Route 22, Washington County -- Lane closures between West Virginia line and Hanlin Station Road for $4.3 million resurfacing project.

Route 22, Westmoreland County -- Separate widening projects east of Murrysville and east of New Alexandria mean lane closures and other disruptions for 2008 construction season.

Route 28, Allegheny Valley -- Northbound single lane closures, Harmar to Creighton. Southbound closures 9 a.m.-5:30 p.m. from Pittsburgh Mills to Route 910/Harmar. Traffic is to be stopped in Harmar at 8 a.m. again this Saturday for blasting, weather permitting. TV surveillance camera view of rockfall area on the web at www.sr28a44project.com.

Route 65, Pittsburgh -- Single lane closures in both directions 9 a.m.-3 p.m. weekdays through mid-June on Ohio River Boulevard while crews repair small bridge between Termon and Millerton avenues on the North Side.

Route 88, Overbrook -- To be closed south of McNeilly Road to Sixth Street/Killarney Drive, Castle Shannon, from 9 a.m. tomorrow through 11 p.m. Saturday for continue widening, safety work. Detour via West Liberty Avenue.

OTHER ROADS

Boulevard of the Allies, Oakland -- Closed outbound east of the Parkway East entrance. Forbes Avenue has been reduced to a single lane through summer. Priority being given to traffic exiting the parkway; a stop sign has been posted for drivers coming up Forbes.

Lovedale Road, Lincoln -- closed for about six weeks starting 7 a.m. tomorrow between Jacktown Road Extension and Harrison Hollow Road while a bridge is replaced. Detour for 8,800 average daily traffic will be posted.

Reis Run Road, Ross -- PennDOT has cleaned up the slide and the road has reopened between Brookmeade Drive and Rochester Road.

South Main Street, West End -- Block-long stretch that's also Route 60 closed for roadway relocation and to build new bridge to Steuben Street. Posted detours use Alexander and Dumas streets. Work is part of the $52.6 million West End Circle improvement.

MAJOR BRIDGES

Birmingham Bridge -- One lane maintained in both directions, on the southbound side. Northbound side closed while rocker bearings are replaced.

Fort Duquesne Bridge -- Bridge inspections being done 6 a.m.-noon on weekends through May 18. Lane restrictions only.
