A shotgun-toting bandit robbed a bingo game Wednesday night at St. Vladimir Byzantine Catholic Church in Arnold, police said.
The lone robber, wearing a hooded sweat shirt and a bandana over the lower half of his face, entered the church hall at about 10 p.m., just as the games were ending.
Bingo operators were counting the evening's take, estimated at more than $1,500, when the man demanded all the money, which they handed over.
An elderly male player blocked the robber's path as he fled but was knocked down trying to slow the younger man, Arnold Police Chief Joseph Doutt said.
The elderly man had not seen the robber's shotgun, Chief Doutt said.
No injuries were reported and no shots were fired, police said.
"Naturally, after something like this, we try to do extra patrols," Chief Doutt said.
Witnesses told police the man is black and was last seen getting behind the wheel of a red, four-door car outside the church.
Anyone with information about the robber or the holdup is asked to call Arnold police at 724-339-9663.
