Jack L. Teichart was known far and wide as a perfectionist with a big smile.
Mr. Teichart, founder of Teichart-Gracan Funeral Home in Duquesne, died of cancer Saturday at Valley Care of the Masonic Village in Sewickley. He was 88.
"He liked to do things right," said his daughter, Elizabeth A. Koenig of Duquesne. "At the viewing, people commented about how he was even a perfectionist about how he dressed. But he always smiled, and he had a wonderful sense of humor.
"He did a lot of things for the community, a lot of things that people did not even know he did. And he was extremely compassionate, too."
He was in the first graduating class of the Pittsburgh Institute of Mortuary Science. A World War II Army veteran, he was a member of county, state and national funeral directors' associations.
A member of the First United Methodist Church in Duquesne, he served as a trustee, and on its administrative board and pastor parish committee.
Mr. Teichart also was a member of F&AM Duquesne Lodge 731, Pennsylvania Consistory, Syria Shrine, McKeesport Caravan 4 and Tall Cedars of Lebanon Al-O-Mon Forest 138.
His other memberships included past president of the Duquesne-West Mifflin Rotary Club, where he also served as its first secretary, the National City Bank Advisory Board, and organizations ranging from the Greater Pittsburgh Council, Boy Scouts of America to the Duquesne-West Mifflin Boys & Girls Club to the Duquesne Golf Club.
In addition to his daughter, he is survived by a grandson.
Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. today at Christ Lutheran Church, 405 Kennedy Ave., Duquesne. Burial will be in Round Hill Cemetery in Elizabeth.
