Jenn Doran

Peters Township

The past week: Doran, a senior member of the Indians' girls' lacrosse team, scored 17 goals and had five assists in three games -- wins against Seton-LaSalle, Quaker Valley and Fox Chapel.

Check this out: A University of Cincinnati recruit, Doran is a four-year starter for the Indians who has 225 career goals and helped Peters Township win its first five section games this season.

When did you start playing lacrosse? In eighth grade, when I moved to Peters Township from Morgantown, W.Va.

If you didn't play lacrosse, you would be playing ... Softball. Before I played lacrosse, I played softball in middle school.

Why did you choose Cincinnati? It was easy. There are great coaches, it is a great atmosphere, I love the campus and the academic and athletic parts of the school. It just felt right all the way around.

You grew up in Morgantown, are you a WVU football fan? Yes, a huge one. And I have a funny story. When I was in seventh grade I went to a game and they were playing Wisconsin and I accidently wore a red track sweatshirt. I got verbally abused all game.

Something you are tired of hearing about? That your teenage years are the best of your life. Mentally, I am so done with high school. I am ready to move on.

Cory McGinnis

Hampton

The past week: McGinnis pitched a one-hitter in a 9-0 victory against Mars and was 3 for 4 in a 5-4 win against Knoch.

Check this out: In the most recent WPIAL statistics, McGinnis, a 6-foot-1, 185-pound senior pitcher-right fielder, was among the leaders in five categories (hitting and pitching). He is 4-0 as a pitcher and hitting better than .500. He will play next season at Calhoun Community College in Decatur, Ala.

You used to play shortstop. How do you like outfield? The coaches did it to conserve my arm. It's a lot more relaxed than infield and I can concentrate more on hitting.

Is pitching the most important thing on a high school team? It's most important at any level. You dictate the game.

It's 10 o'clock at night, and you're hungry. What are you going to do? Probably pop some Pop-Tarts in the toaster.

Something that bothers you about high school girls? I'm glad you asked that. It drives me crazy when girls hang out with you and text message other people the whole time.

People might be surprised to know that ... I used to think I could fly, so I jumped off my swing set when I was 8 years old and cut my chin open. I did it more than once, too.
