A Westmoreland County doctor was charged today with illegally selling prescriptions in exchange for cash and chores in his home.
Dr. Antoine Cawog, 62, of Greensburg was charged by state Attorney General Tom Corbett after an undercover agent posed as a patient and made 10 visits to the doctor's Irwin office.
According to the criminal complaint, Dr. Cawog wrote prescriptions without completing a patient history, physical, review of past medical records or diagnostic tests of the undercover agent posing as a patient. There were no scales or blood pressure cuffs in the exam rooms, and the doctor and his staff made no assessments of the undercover patient's vital signs or symptoms.
The attorney general's office also used an informant in the case. Mr. Corbett said that the informant and undercover police officers performed work at Dr. Cawog's home in exchange for prescriptions.
Dr. Cawog is charged with controlled substance violations and Medicaid fraud.
The IRS also filed charges today against Dr. Cawog for income tax evasion. IRS agents took him into custody this afternoon.
