Q: Maybe I have missed a story somewhere, but I was wondering why the Steelers selected a QB in the draft? I had watched Dennis Dixon in a couple games last season and he appeared to have decent talent. Has there been an actual reason given by the team to support that pick or could it be that Charlie Batch is getting older and the organization wanted to groom another backup for a year or two before Charlie calls it a career? Right now, I see Dixon becoming the next Brian St.Pierre. Am I wrong?

BOUCHETTE: With Ben Roethlisberger, 26, as their starting quarterback and veteran Charlie Batch behind him, it would seem like a luxury to draft another quarterback in the fifth round. But Batch, at 33, won't play forever and the Steelers believe they found a gem worth taking in Dixon. Because they do have Batch, they have the luxury of having patience with Dixon. They could take a few years to teach him the finer points of the position, and he'll need time to get over his torn ACL.
