FBI offers reward in hunt for bank robbery suspect
Wednesday, April 30, 2008

The FBI is offering $1,000 to anyone who can help it catch a man who's recently robbed several banks.

In the past four months, the man is believed to have robbed a half-dozen banks near Interstate 70, from Donora to New Stanton. The most recent was the Community Bank and Trust of Pennsylvania in West Newton on Monday at about 3 p.m., according to FBI spokesman Bill Crowley.

The suspect is a white man with a mustache who appears to be 45 to 50 years old, about 5 feet, 8 inches tall, weighs about 180 pounds, and typically wears a ball cap, hoodie sweat shirt pulled over his head, sunglasses and gloves during the crimes.

The man usually walks up to a teller, opens a bag he has brought with him, shows the teller a handgun inside, and demands money. In Monday's robbery, Mr. Crowley said, witnesses saw the man flee in a white cargo van or work van that might have been a Ford Econoline.

The man also is believed to have robbed the First Commonwealth Bank in Youngwood on Jan. 8, S&T Bank in Youngwood on Feb. 26, National City Bank in Smithton on March 6, Paragon Federal Credit Union in New Stanton on March 12 and a PNC in Donora on April 7.

Anyone with information about the robberies can call 412-432-4000.
