Q.: Ed, can you explain the Steelers' thinking in not drafting a guard or defensive lineman? Maybe they think either Willie Colon or Chris Keamatou can fill Alan Faneca's spot, but the defensive line is aging and sorely lacks depth.
Eric Schobel, Fairlawn, N.J.
BOUCHETTE: I will repeat something Kevin Colbert said after the draft -- that you can't get everything. They had seven draft picks, and I thought they used them well on the first day. I'm not so sure about the second day, but that might take a few years to determine. They did draft an offensive tackle on the fourth round, a position they needed more than they needed guards. They actually have enough guards, counting the loser of the competition at center. They desperately needed a defensive end and failed to get one in the draft because they did not want to just draft a body at the position that did not have value for the pick, and I can't blame them. They've missed at that position far too long, however, which is why they have no depth there now.
