We eroneously reported Friday that the Cotton Candy Guy was in attendance at Game 1. We reported that based on a faint sound we heard that we assumed was the man himself. It was sloppy reporting on our end. We should've waited until we had visual confirmation. Plus, we shouldn't have relied on our ears when 17,123 souls were screaming their heads off.
Several people have e-mailed us and informed us he was spotted at the Pirates game that night. After getting over the initial shock that people actually attended a Pirates game, we came to the conclusion we were a bit too hopeful that the Cotton Candy Guy was part of that special Friday night.
We regret the error.
BRING BACK MIKE
Mike Lange's goal calls from Friday night:
EMPTY NETTER ASSISTS
Eastern Conference
Penguins-Rangers
-Sidney Crosby and Evgeni Malkin are not the next Milan Kraft and Aleksey Morozov.
-Thank goodness Petr Sykora's wife likes her sleep.
-The Penguins weren't crazy about going down 3-0 Friday night.
-The Rangers are not the Senators.
-Michel Therrien cares not for accusations that Sidney Crosby is a diver.
-The Rangers want to crash the net more often.
-FSN Pittsburgh will show the remainder of its Penguins games in high definition.
-New York needs to play better defense.
-Going Five Hole broke down Martin Straka's penalty in Game 1 frame-by-frame.
-Therrien needs to play the Powerball. Based on prior history, the Penguins only had a 4.9 percent chance of winning Game 1.
-Neither team was crazy about the ice in Game 1.
-The Rangers may dress forward Petr Prucha for Game 2.
-The last time the Penguins overcame a three-goal deficit to win a playoff game was Game 1 of the 1992 Stanley Cup final. You may recall it:
-EN Reader Lauren Balot shot some video from the pregame presentation from Game 1:
Canadiens-Flyers
-Plum native R.J. Umberger scored two goals and led the Flyers to a 4-2 win in Montreal. The series is tied, 1-1.
-Flyers goaltender Martin Biron made 34 saves and stole the show.
-The Canadiens felt they should've won the game.
-They really don't like Daniel Briere in Montreal.
-Briere showed why everyone wanted to sign him this offseason last night.

Western Conference
Red Wings-Avalanche
-Johan Franzen's hat trick led the Red Wings to a 5-1 rout of the Avalanche. Detroit leads the series, 2-0.
-The Avalanche isn't playing with a full deck.
-With Jose Theodore getting chased in the first two games of this series, should Colorado make a full-time move to Peter Budaj in goal?
-Peter Forsberg did not play due to a groin injury. Terry Frei of the Denver Post says Forsberg is a major liability.
-In addition to Forsberg, the Avalanche was without defenseman Scott Hannan due to a lower-body injury.
-During the national anthem yesterday, a fan threw an octopus on the ice. Colorado forward Cody McLeod picked it up with bare hand, skated towards the Red Wings bench and yelled something then threw it into the tunnel behind the Avalanche's bench.
-Check the video. (It's at the 0:05 mark.)
-Colorado wasn't composed.
-The Red Wings need to keep their foot on the gas.
-Johan Franzen rules the world.
-The Avalanche had more penalties than shots on goal in the second period.
-Colorado tried to get physical, but it didn't work.
-Red Wings forward Darren McCarty and Avalanche forward Cody McCormick got into an old-fashioned fight.
Sharks-Stars
-Stars center Mike Ribeiro can do a little bit of everything.
-Dallas coach and former Penguin Dave Tippett wouldn't mind going home with a 2-0 series lead.
-Stars defenseman and former Penguin Sergei Zubov will be a game-time decision tonight.
-Sharks coach Ron Wilson wants his team to get physical. They also want to create traffic around Dallas' net.
AHL
Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins
-They had a whiteout night in Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Friday as well:
(Kudos to EN contributor Eric Politowski for the find.)
