Aliquippa police are investigating the death of a baby girl who was burned by boiling water over the weekend.
The baby, Trinity Moon, suffered the burns at about 12:30 a.m. Saturday, her first birthday, Aliquippa police Chief Ralph Pallante said.
Her mother, Delonda Tucker, 31, had been preparing pasta for a party planned for Trinity's birthday, police said.
Ms. Tucker had lifted a pot of boiling water from the stove and, as she turned, she stumbled over her baby, who had wandered behind her in a walker.
The water spilled, injuring Trinity with third-degree burns over 50 percent of her body.
She and her mother were taken by the baby's father, Troy Moon, to Sewickley Valley Hospital. Trinity was transferred to UPMC Mercy, where she died at 7:49 a.m. yesterday.
Ms. Tucker also suffered burns, and she was hospitalized overnight, Chief Pallante said.
An autopsy, completed this morning at the Medical Center of Beaver County, was inconclusive as to the cause of death.
Trinity recently had been diagnosed with asthma, police said.
Aliquippa police and detectives from the Beaver County District Attorney's office are investigating.
