Police are likely to file charges in student attack on school bus
Thursday, April 24, 2008

Industry Police Chief G.R. Miller said he expects to file charges over an alleged attack against a student in a school bus at Western Beaver High School.

Chief Miller yesterday said the incident was still under investigation but involved two students who were riding the bus from Beaver County Area Vocational-Technical School to the Western Beaver High School parking lot.

He said he expected to file charges with juvenile authorities at the close of his investigation.

He was continuing to interview students and awaiting medical reports on the injured student. He said he believes the victim lost consciousness "for a moment or two" as he stepped up to exit the bus. He said the victim was treated and released from a hospital.

Chief Miller said the two students got into a verbal confrontation at the vo-tech school before boarding a bus taking them to the high school last Thursday. He said it turned into a physical confrontation when the bus arrived at the high school parking lot.

During the bus ride, Chief Miller said, the driver asked one of the students to sit down. When the fight broke out, "I believe this happened so quickly when they pulled up to the school, I don't know he would have had time to break it up."

Chief Miller believes a number of students recorded the episode on their cell phones.

Western Beaver Superintendent Enrico Antonini declined to specify what actions the district has taken, saying only: "We've taken appropriate action."

He said officials were continuing their investigation, including talking with students who were said to have recorded the episode.
