PNC Financial Services Group has settled a patent-infringement suit filed by a Texas company over a method of making and processing digital images of checks. Financial terms weren't disclosed. The patents are owned by DataTreasury Corp., a closely held company based in Plano, Texas, that has sued more than two dozen U.S. banks. Fred Solomon, a PNC spokesman, said the company had no comment beyond confirming that a settlement had been reached.
Verizon Wireless will be collecting old cell phones from any carrier from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. tomorrow through Friday, at a recycling station at Fifth Avenue Place, Downtown. Collected phones will be recycled to support HopeLine, an initiative that provides wireless phones and wireless phone service to survivors of domestic violence.
Mylan Inc. yesterday said it had received approval from the Food and Drug Administration for felodipine extended-release tablets, the generic version of AstraZeneca Pharmaceutical's Plendil tablets. The drug, which treats high blood pressure, had U.S. sales of about $251 million in the 12 months ended Dec. 31, Mylan said, citing IMS Health figures.
Cranberry teen retail chain rue21 is launching two "eco-friendly" fragrances in 40 of its 370 stores. The scents, called "revert," will come in versions for guys and girls. The line, packaged in recycled paper, is expected to roll out across the chain for the back-to-school shopping season.
