Old paint, cleaners, pesticides, herbicides and other household waste will be collected from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. next Saturday at the Settler's Cabin Park Wave Pool parking lot. The fee is $2 per gallon and must be paid in cash.
The Allegheny County collection is the first of several this year sponsored by the Southwestern Pennsylvania Household Hazardous Waste Task Force, UPMC and other agencies. Other collections will be held May 17 in Cambria County, June 28 in Lawrence County, Aug. 16 in Butler County, Sept. 20 in Allegheny County and Oct. 4 in Beaver County.
Items collected include aerosol cans, automotive fluids, batteries, compact fluorescent bulbs, gasoline and kerosene, household cleaners, latex and oil-based paints, mothballs, fertilizer, photo chemicals, and pool chemicals.
Collectors will not accept ammunition, appliances, propane tanks, drugs, explosives, fluorescent tubes, leaking containers, medical waste, tires and radioactive materials, including smoke detectors.

Stone Gate Manor in Minerva, Ohio, will offer a series of one-day workshops on various topics beginning April 29. Classes include rustic English stone masonry, brick and block laying, dry stone masonry, roofing, siding, and plumbing. The workshops are intended for do-it-yourselfers.
