A Butler County man, one of four arrested after more than 100 firearms and ammunition were stolen from a Fenelton gun shop, was sentenced yesterday to 37 months in federal prison, the U.S. Attorney's office said.
Heath Aaron Confer, 24, of Butler, previously pleaded guilty in connection with the June 14 theft of 120 firearms, including pistols, revolvers and rifles. Various hunting supplies and 147 boxes of ammunition also were reported missing.
The items were taken from McCrea Gun Shop.
Mr. Confer and his alleged accomplices, David Anthony George, Danial James Dopson and Matthew Gregory Hamersley, were arrested after they were pulled over while riding in a stolen car June 15.
The Dodge Neon in which they were riding had an inoperable headlight and license plate light, causing state police to pull the vehicle over.
A subsequent search of the vehicle uncovered the stolen merchandise.
