And the winner is ... you decide
Thursday, April 17, 2008

Finally, after what seems like months of jabbering about which candidate is better, we get a chance to decide next week -- is it Scotch or bourbon?

The Great Whisk(e)y Debate is coming to Pittsburgh, the day before the Pennsylvania primary. Similar to events held at hotels and racetracks in Chicago, Louisville, San Francisco and elsewhere, Pittsburgh's is scheduled for 7 p.m. Monday at the Cabaret at Theater Square, 655 Penn Ave., Downtown.

The good-natured debate will pit Knob Creek whiskey expert Bernie Lubbers against Scotch expert Simon Brooking, a Scotland native who has worked for several distilleries.

Because democracy is participatory by its very nature, it would be nice if you learned a little bit about the candidates before you cast your vote. And neither orator will dissuade you from sampling the competitor, because all of the featured whiskeys (the Small Batch Bourbon Collection and Ardmore Traditional Cask and Laphroaig Quarter Cask single malt Scotches) are products distributed by Beam Global Spirits & Wine.

So really, everybody's a winner.

The event is free, but you need to RSVP via the phone number below. No RSVP is necessary to attend the winner's "victory party" the following night, April 22, from 7 to 9 p.m. at Bossa Nova, Downtown. Call 1-847-444-7878 for more details.
