Would you need to be reminded that you're driving a BMW? Neither would I.
Given the superb performance, perfect, balanced handling and just the fun and cachet of these cars, I don't think I would forget what I'm driving -- and you probably wouldn't either.
But like everybody else, I like to feel a little bit special, and so do most car owners.
BMW will cater to that special feeling if you're one of the first to buy the all-new 1 Series coupe and convertible, which recently hit local showrooms. Each 2008 BMW 1 Series, both coupe and convertible models, will be equipped with a specially engraved Start/Stop button with the inscription" "Year One of the 1."
The 1 Series Coupe, with prices ranging between $28,600 and $34,900, features rear-wheel-drive dynamics, agile handling, powerful 6-cylinder engines and seating for four.
The 1 Series may be considered BMW's return to its roots as the maker of high-performance, reasonably affordable sports coupes, a genre most easily recalled by the much-loved BMW 2002 of years ago.
The BMW 1 Series that we have is a two-door coupe powered by a 230-horsepower 3.0-liter 6 for the 328i model, or the 300-horsepower, 3.0-liter twin turbo 6. The same engines are available on the convertible, which has a base price range of $33,875 and $39,875.
Interior room is somewhat limited, but the car more than makes up for it in a driver-oriented cockpit and strong performance.
