Stylebook: Coach joins a nonviolent cause
Monday, April 14, 2008
Proceeds from this new Mother's Day tote by Coach will benefit an organization that teaches peacemaking and conflict resolution to elementary students.

With bullying, school fights and attacks by students on teachers making headlines more frequently, talk has turned to how to teach children to make peace and resolve conflict nonviolently.

Peace Games is a Boston-based nonprofit organization founded in the early '90s to help teach those skills to elementary students. In honor of Mother's Day, Coach is donating 20 percent of sales of a new handbag from April 23 through Mother's Day to the organization.

The bag is a tote made of plaid-on-cream tatersall fabric with pink trim and Coach's graphic Heritage logo. It's $258 only at www.coach.com through May 11.

High price of beauty

Even during an economic recession, few women are willing to give up trusted skin regimens. They'll stick with a routine that works regardless of cost, and luxury beauty brands know that.

So, it's no surprise that some cosmetics and skin-care brands continue to churn out high-priced treatments.

Industry pioneer Estee Lauder has added Ultimate Youth Creme to its upscale Re-Nutriv line. The decadent cream, $250 for 1.7 ounces, contains a "youth molecule" with South Sea pearl extracts to hydrate skin and make it instantly appear more radiant. The aromatic potion also includes Resveratrate -- a souped-up and trademarked variety of the soothing antioxidant Resveratrol -- and camelina sativa oil, an exotic seed extract that promotes softness, elasticity and evenness of skin tone.

France-based La Mer has added four new products that contain the same fermented marine broth that effectively addresses all sorts of complexion issues and that has made Creme de la Mer the gold standard of beauty creams. (It's $1,350 for a 16.5-ounce jar.)

The Radiant Infusion is a $90 treatment serum that absorbs rapidly into all skin types and leaves the complexion looking and feeling refreshed. The Eye Concentrate ($160) is formulated to nourish and improve the appearance of skin around the eyes, Moisturizing Gel Cream ($220) is a lighter version of the rich Creme de la Mer, and the Radiant Facial ($320) is a dosed regimen for more intense facial treatments.

La Mer products are available at Saks Fifth Avenue, and ReNutriv Ultimate Youth Creme is at Saks and esteelauder.com.
