Ask Carley: Don't be married to the traditional wedding cake
Monday, April 07, 2008

Q: My fiance loves chocolate, but I can't stand it. How can we choose a wedding cake we'll both love?

A: Easy. You've got several options -- all of which, we might add, are delicious!

You could serve a cake that includes different flavors in the various tiers, a tremendously popular option now. We don't just mean different fillings, we're talking completely different options -- think dark chocolate and Kahlua filling or red velvet and cream-cheese frosting -- in each tier.

Or simply have more than one cake. The groom's cake is traditionally done in rich chocolates, so you could make that one be a total chocoholic's fantasy, and pick something completely different (and more to your taste) for the wedding cake.

Couples who go with cupcakes instead of the traditional tiered cake usually choose more than one flavor. If you want to have a classic wedding cake no matter what, you could serve a second dessert on the side.

You should be able to come up with a yummy solution no matter how you slice it.
