CMU, Pitt graduate schools rated highly

Carnegie Mellon University and the University of Pittsburgh are listed among the nation's best in a graduate school ranking released Friday by U.S. News & World Report.

At Carnegie Mellon, the graduate engineering school ranked seventh best, down from sixth best last year. Business programs ranked 17th best, unchanged from last year.

Pitt's School of Medicine moved to 14th place from 15th last year in the schools of medicine-research category, tied with the University of California-San Diego. The School of Pharmacy rose to 19th from 24th when the category was last ranked in 2005, tied this year with the University of Kansas. The engineering school rose to 48th from 50th last year.
