Help Turtle Creek clean up the town

Turtle Creek will have its second annual Spring Cleanup Day from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. April 19. All borough streets, alleyways, parks, abandoned lots and areas near waterways will be targeted.

That is a considerable amount of land to be covered in just five hours, but it can be done. Last year, we picked up more than 4 tons of garbage and removed more than 200 tires.

Citizen volunteers are needed. Already on board are members of borough council; the Rotary Club; the fire, police and street departments; Woodland Hills student groups; the Turtle Creek Athletic Association; Crime Watch; community churches; the Turtle Creek Development Corporation; the Turtle Creek Historical Society; and [District] Judge [Scott H.] Schricker's office.

Volunteers should report to Turtle Creek Fire Hall starting at 9:30 that morning. They will be given supplies and assigned an area.

If a volunteer wants to focus only on his or her street, that is his or her right, but I am encouraging help throughout the community. Street department trucks will be circulating through the borough to pick up bags of garbage.

If there are any questions or concerns, please call my office at 412-823-0154.
