Butler Area
Guard, 5-10, Soph.
The immediate future of the Butler Area girls' basketball program looks to be tremendously bright with Bresnahan just a sophomore for coach Dorothea Epps. One of the top underclassmen in the state, Bresnahan scored 15.2 points per game for a Butler team that had a 24-4 season and lost just once in Section 3-AAAA. She also led Butler to the WPIAL quarterfinals and to a victory in a PIAA preliminary round game against Allderdice.
OLIVIA DiNUCCI
Shaler Area
Forward, 5-11, Junior
The top scorer in Section 3-AAAA with an 18.4 points per game average, DiNucci was a bright spot for a Shaler Area team that went 11-13, 4-8 in section play. She also averaged a little more than 6 rebounds per game. DiNucci hit a hot streak in the early portion of January, scoring 29 points in a loss against Seneca Valley, 22 points three nights later in a victory against Pine-Richland and then capped off that week by scoring 21 in a loss against North Allegheny.
LILY GRENCI
Mars Area
Forward, 6-1, Junior
A force in the Class AAA ranks, Grenci was the top vote-getter in the all-section balloting by coaches in Section 1-AAA. A player with the ability to play both facing the basket and with her back to it, Grenci averaged 17.9 points per game for the Planets, a team that reached the WPIAL postseason. She started the season off in style, scoring 26 points in a win against North Allegheny and also toppled the 1,000-point plateau this year.
LAUREL HANSEN
Hampton
Forward, 6-2, Junior
There were times this year when Hansen -- along with teammate and fellow all-PG North selection Jodie Luther -- flat-out controlled the interior for the WPIAL champion Talbots, who constructed a 26-3 record. Hansen had perhaps her finest all-around game in the WPIAL championship contest, scoring 8 points, grabbing 15 rebounds and blocking 6 shots in the Talbots' four-point victory against West Mifflin at the A.J. Palumbo Center.
JODIE LUTHER
Hampton
Forward, 6-1, Senior
An all-section performer along with teammate Laurel Hansen, Luther averaged 14.8 points for the WPIAL champion Talbots. Luther's greatest impact came on defense and on the boards, where she helped secure the low block in a tricky match-up zone and also pulled down six rebounds per game. She plans to attend Carnegie Mellon, the University of Rochester or Penn State and will play basketball if she chooses Carnegie Mellon or Rochester.
