TED CONNOLLY

North Allegheny

Guard, 6-2, Senior

The Tigers achieved a 23-3 record and reached the WPIAL Class AAAA playoffs by relying on balance, but that said, Connolly was a force for coach Dave DeGregorio's team. Connolly averaged 12 points per game for a team that began the season 10-0 and won 15 of its first 16 games. Connolly shined in an overtime win against Norwin Jan. 2, scoring 22 points. Connolly plans to play next season at the United States Naval Academy.

REECE MABERY

Highlands

Guard, 5-10, Senior

The Golden Rams were the highest scoring team in the WPIAL at 75.4 points per game and made a run to the quarterfinal, and Mabery was a huge factor in both. He averaged 20.1 points per game in Highlands' run-and-gun style. Mabery wore No. 42 this year, in tribute to former teammate Alex Goshorn, who died Feb. 3, 2006, after a battle with leukemia. Mabery plans to play basketball next season and is being recruited by Division II schools.

BRETT MATSON

Pine-Richland

Guard, 6-0, Senior

The top vote-getter in the Section 3-AAAA balloting, Matson is an ultra-quick and very heady guard who led the section in scoring at 18.8 points per game. He finished with 1,354 career points, second most in school history. An honors student, Matson is still undecided about college but has numerous possibilities. There is a possibility he could walk-on at a Division I school, and he is being courted by many Division III colleges.

HARRISON SMITH

Fox Chapel

Guard, 6-1, Junior

One of the top juniors in the WPIAL, Smith has a seemingly innate ability to score. He averaged a team-high 21.6 points per game for a Foxes team that went 11-13. Smith was also the top scorer in always-tough Section 2-AAAA, even as his team went just 5-7 in section play. He went through a torrid stretch early in the season, scoring 28 points against Peters Township and then coming out a few nights later and hitting for 31 in a win against Thomas Jefferson.

DAN WIRKOWSKI

Shaler Area

Guard, 6-2, Senior

The Titans finished with a .500 record, which was good enough to get them into the playoffs, and throughout the entire season Wirkowski was the constant. He averaged 16.7 points per game for coach Howie Ruppert's team and scored 30 points in a win against New Castle. Wirkowski is also a standout football player, making the all-Northern Five Conference team this past season as a running back. He most likely will play football in college at the Division II level.
