Serra Catholic
Center, 6-8, Senior
The big man in the middle, Grubbs, a Turtle Creek resident, helped the Eagles to WPIAL and PIAA Class A titles. He averaged 19.7 points and 13 rebounds a game and was selected to the first team on the Associated Press Class A All-State team. Grubbs has a soft shooting touch for a big man and scored 31 points, 17 in the fourth quarter, as Serra rallied to win the PIAA title. Grubbs has decided to continue his basketball career at Division II Pitt-Johnstown.
CHRIS KLIMCHOCK
Greensburg Salem
Guard, 5-9, Junior
Arguably the best true point guard in the WPIAL, Klimchock helped Greensburg Salem reach the WPIAL Class AAA semifinals and the PIAA playoffs for the first time. A starter since his freshman year, he averaged 15.9 points, 6.2 assists and 2.5 steals a game for the Golden Lions and was the second-leading vote-getter in Section 3-AAA this season. An outstanding free-throw shooter, he was 138 for 160 (86.3 percent) from the line and connected on 43 3-point shots.
NICK NOVAK
Franklin Regional
Guard, 6-0, Junior
A slick guard with a knack for getting to the basket, Novak was the top vote-getter in Section 1-AAAA this season and helped Franklin Regional reach the WPIAL playoffs. He averaged 21.1 points and three assists per game this season. He scored 36 points in a contest against Connellsville and 38 against Brashear in a PIAA play-in game. "He has a very good pull-up jumper and was 80-85 percent at the foul line," coach Doug Kelly said. "He's also a very good passer."
TERRELLE PRYOR
Jeannette
Forward, 6-6, Senior
An Ohio State recruit for football, Pryor was the Associated Press Class AA Player of the Year on its all-state team and a fourth-team Parade All-American. He averaged 21.9 points a game for the Jayhawks and led them to WPIAL and PIAA championships after doing the same thing in football. Perhaps his best game came against Beaver Falls in the WPIAL final when he had 39 points, 24 rebounds and 11 blocks. Finished his high school career with 2,285 points.
MIKE SHANAHAN
Norwin
Guard, 6-5, Senior
An outstanding athlete, Shanahan had Division I basketball and football offers to consider, but has decided to play football at Pitt. Last year, Shanahan averaged 17.5 points, 9 rebounds and 8 assists a game for the Knights. This season, he averaged 15 points, 9 rebounds and 6 assists. Shanahan was a tough matchup for opponents because he could step outside and take jump shots, or post up close to the basket. Named to the PG East Fab Five for a second consecutive years.
