PG South: Fabulous Five All-Stars

DEVON ALEXANDER

McKeesport

Forward, 6-5, Senior

A bruising and brutish force in the post for coach Corey Gadson's team, Alexander scored 13.8 points per game in helping lead the Tigers to a 20-5 season and a spotless 12-0 mark in Section 2-AAAA. "Day-Day" as he is nicknamed, had a stellar PIAA first-round playoff game in a win against Schenley. He scored 26 points, made 12 of 15 shots and grabbed nine rebounds in the victory. He is being recruited by several Division II and III schools to play basketball.

QUENTIN HARDING

McKeesport

Guard, 6-4, Senior

An explosive scorer who has a penchant for getting to the basket but can also pull up and drill jump shots, Harding scored 15.6 points per game in always-tough Section 2-AAAA this season. Also a solid defender, Harding was often given the responsibility of guarding the opposing team's premier outside threat and, more times than not, locked him down. Division I schools such as Akron have shown interest in Harding, who has yet to decide on his college plans.

T.J. HEATHERINGTON

Serra Catholic

Guard, 5-9, Junior

There isn't a more gritty or determined point guard in the WPIAL. A White Oak resident, he helped lead the Eagles to a 30-2 record and WPIAL and PIAA Class A titles. Averaging 17 points per game, Heatherington (also the quarterback on Serra's WPIAL championship football team this past fall) was dazzling in the WPIAL championship win against Wilkinsburg, scoring 28 points on 10 of 14 shooting. Serra students are considered for either the PG South or East all-stars based on their residency.

MATT O'BRIEN

Baldwin

Guard, 6-4, Senior

Even as Baldwin was pushing through a down year, finishing with a 10-13 record -- 3-9 in Section 4-AAAA -- the one constant was always O'Brien, who averaged 20 points per game for the Highlanders. He exploded for 31 points twice this season, once against Peters Township and another time against New Castle. A solid student who plans to play basketball in college, O'Brien is looking into opportunities at schools such as Mount Union, Wittenberg and Marietta.

CHRISTIAN SHEA

Upper St. Clair

Guard 6-0, Junior

One of the top juniors in the WPIAL, Shea was a big reason coach Danny Holzer's Panthers once again hit the 20-win plateau, finishing the season with a 20-6 mark, 8-4 in Section 4-AAAA. Shea scored 15.6 points per game this year, helping the Panthers reach the WPIAL quarterfinals. Shea doesn't need to score to be effective, as he directs the offense, but he also can put up big numbers. That was the case against Elizabeth Forward this year, when he scored 31 points.
