Forbes Avenue will be narrowed from two lanes to one lane into Oakland on April 28 as part of ongoing road and bridge construction at the Boulevard of Allies.
Pennsylvania Department of Transportation District 11 Executive Dan Cessna confirmed the date today as part of a discussion about 2008 improvement projects.
He said the Forbes Avenue restriction was delayed until Pitt and Carnegie Mellon universities recess for the summer and that it will be lifted before the students return for the fall semester.
PennDOT is spending $29 million to reconfigure and rebuild Forbes, the boulevard and Fifth Avenue into a modern gateway to the city's medical and educational center.

Weather permitting, the contractor doing hillside stabilization along Route 28 south in Harmar plans to stop traffic in both directions, and on Freeport Road, for about 15 minutes starting at 9:55 a.m. tomorrow for the next round of rock-blasting. It will be the second in a series of blasts this spring and summer as part of gthe $8.5 million contract.
The off-ramp from I-579 south to Seventh Avenue, Downtown, will be closed from 8 p.m. Friday until 5 a.m. Monday as crews mill, patch and pave the ramp as part of an a $5.2 million project on the interstate, also known as the Crosstown Boulevard, below Mellon Arena.
The Route 28 north exit ramp to Creighton (Exit 13) in East Deer is to be closed from 7 p.m. Friday until 6 a.m. Monday for concrete patching, part of an ongoing project.
