Bedford inmate accused of trying to have witness killed
Friday, March 28, 2008

A Bedford County man facing multiple counts of drug trafficking was arraigned today on charges that he tried to have a witness against him killed.

James Anderson, 27, of Everett, had been arrested three times since December, including twice last month, on drug trafficking charges, District Attorney Bill Higgins said.

Yesterday, state police arrested him on charges that, in a hand written letter to another person, he sought to have the prosecution's witness killed.

"James Anderson obviously does not understand that the law does apply to him," Mr. Higgins said in a press release today. "His boldness and arrogance are absolutely incredible."

Mr. Anderson already was being held on $500,000 bail in the Bedford County Jail. The bail was continued following his arraignment this morning on one count of solicitation to commit homicide.

He faces a preliminary hearing April 2 on the new charge.
