Man held on homicide charges in shooting of wife, friend
Friday, March 28, 2008

A man accused of shooting his wife and a friend in a restaurant parking lot was held on homicide charges this morning.

John S. Lang, 34, of Pitcairn was charged with shooting his wife, Tracy Braverman-Lang, 43, and Louis Goldenson, 37, of Monroeville early March 15.

Allegheny County homicide detective Michael Garlicki testified at a preliminary hearing this morning in city court. Mr. Lang told him after the shooting that he and his wife had been having marital problems. He said he shot his wife and a man he's known for years after he caught them kissing and embracing while they stood in the parking lot of Don Pablo's restaurant in Monroeville.

Mr. Lang was apprehended at the scene by Monroeville police who had been dispatched to the shooting. He told responding officers, who recovered the handgun, that he shot both victims, according to an affidavit of probable cause.

He also said that after shooting both victims, he got out of his vehicle, stood over them as they lay wounded on the ground and shot them again with his .40-caliber handgun, according to the detective.

Ms. Braverman-Lang was pronounced dead at the scene of the 12:35 a.m. shooting and Mr. Goldenson died about an hour later at Forbes Regional Hospital.

Mr. Lang was held on two counts of homicide and a gun violation.
