City offers help tomorrow for seniors with tax refunds
Friday, March 28, 2008

The city Finance Department will be open from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. tomorrow to help seniors qualify for this year's economic tax stimulus.

To receive a stimulus check -- $300 for individuals and $600 for couples -- individuals must file a 1040A form, but often seniors who rely on income from Social Security, railroad retirement or veteran's assistance do not file federal tax forms.

Seniors must bring their 1099-SSA forms, showing applicable federal payments.

The service is not for seniors receiving interest, dividends, rental income, wages, 1099 income or other taxable income.

Interested seniors should use the Grant Street entrance into the City-County Building, 414 Grant St., Downtown, and take the elevators to the second floor to Room 206. Seniors with disabilities should use the Ross Street entrance.
