The Children's Museum and city Councilman William Peduto have initiated Pittsburgh's participation in the worldwide Earth Hour Day tomorrow.
Companies, cultural institutions and individuals are asked to turn off all lights for one hour, from 8 to 9 p.m., tomorrow.
Local participants already committed to the electricity break include the Children's Museum, The Andy Warhol Museum, the Frick Art Museum, Highmark, Madison Realty, the H.J. Heinz Co. -- and the ketchup icon at the Senator John Heinz History Center -- and some buildings at Chatham University.
"Pittsburgh will join cities around the world from Chicago to Sydney to Tel Aviv in bringing attention to the small ways individuals can take action on climate change," said Mr. Peduto. "I am proud to see Earth Hour Day added as another step toward Pittsburgh's green future."
