Coraopolis heads drug trafficking roundup

A planned drug raid this morning already has netted two-thirds of the suspects who were sought, Coraopolis said.

Six months ago, Coraopolis, in conjunction with the District Attorney's Narcotics Enforcement Team began investigating the onset of out-of-town drug traffickers selling crack cocaine in the borough, Coraopolis police Chief Alan DeRusso said this morning.

Using undercover drug buys, tips from informants and surveillance videos, investigators gathered volumes of evidence.

The investigation resulted in 30 arrest warrants being issued.

Sixteen already have been served by Coraopolis officers, agents of the district attorney's office and police in Pittsburgh, Moon, Robinson, Stowe, McKees Rocks and Wilkinsburg, Chief DeRusso said.

Five other suspects already in jail on unrelated charges. Four are in the Allegheny County Jail and one is in Beaver County's lockup, he said.

Suspects are being processed at the Coraopolis police station and arraigned by District Judge Mary P. Murray.

Chief DeRusso said officers will arrests as many of the targeted suspects as possible today.
