The youngsters who play baseball with Avalon's Northgate Athletic Association will play in Brighton Heights this season, but the players and parents hope to return to their home fields next year.
"We have kids that live in Avalon Borough, my own included, that will not play baseball on their home field this year," said Gayle Laughlin, of Avalon, treasurer of the Northgate Athletic Association.
She said those involved with the youth baseball league thought the youngsters would be able to use the same fields they have used for the past five seasons.
The reason they can't is a matter of paperwork, according to Avalon Manager Harry W. Dilmore.
"To date, we have never received a letter from them asking for field time," he said. He said the borough sent a letter asking if the association wanted field time to the league's post office box, but it was returned.
Northgate Athletic Association President Andy Gamblin, of Avalon, said he sent a letter requesting playing time and had talked to Mr. Dilmore about using the fields. Mr. Gamblin said the association was told it wouldn't be able to play on the fields, so it closed its post office box and that's what caused the borough's letter to be returned.
The Bellevue Avalon Baseball Association will use the home fields this season.
Northgate Athletic Association will merge with the Brighton Heights Athletic Association for this season and play all of its games with the Brighton Heights league, but next year it will try to return to its home fields.
Fields are at Frederick Street and New Brighton Road, and in Bellevue Memorial Park.
