BRADENTON, Fla. -- The Pirates this afternoon added yet another cut to their long list, reassigning veteran reliever Hector Carrasco to minor-league camp.
Carrasco, 38, had one of the best ERAs of any reliever in camp at 1.29, struck out eight and walked none in his seven appearances. He allowed eight hits, including a home run in his first outing.
His departure leaves the Pirates with 27 players in camp, including injured outfielder Chris Duffy, meaning they essentially have just one bullpen move to make. Officially, there are four relievers vying for three openings: Franquelis Osoria, Phil Dumatrait, Sean Burnett and Evan Meek.
The final cut will not be made until tomorrow at the earliest.
