Wednesday, March 26, 2008
Emergency personnel inspect the scene on Route 66 in Armstrong County of a fatal accident involving a truck and passenger vehicle.

At least one person was killed this morning in a traffic crash in which a tractor-trailer truck lost its load in Manor, Armstrong County.

State police said the truck, hauling 41,000 pounds of coiled steel, crashed with a passenger vehicle at 7:22 a.m. on Route 66 in Manor.

Police said Shawna Petrosky, 17, of Ford City, an 11th grader at Ford City Junior/Senior High School, was driving on Pleasant View when she pulled in front of the truck. A metal coil from the truck fell onto her car and killed her, police said.

Two passengers in the car, her brother Eric Petrosky Jr. and their cousin, Greg Heeter, both eighth graders at the junior-senior high, were injured. The extent of their injuries was unknown.

The victim's father, Eric Petrosky Sr., is a Pennsylvania state trooper. He was not among law enforcement personnel responding to the accident.

The children's grandmother, Wanda Smock, is the owner of Miller's Hoagies locations in Ford City and Kittanning.

Route 66 in Manor Township was closed for more than five hours after the accident.
